Divisions Categories and Criteria   


Division – Absolute Beginner 'Intrigue'

  • Open to 16 years +
  • For anyone who has never competed in an amateur, Regional, State or National competition at time of entry, and before cut of date.
  • For anyone who has not competed in a Semi-Pro or Professional Competition at time of entry, and before cut of date.

Requirements and Limits - 

  • Your Pole performance must include 3 equal parts spent on 
    • Static Pole
    • Spinning Pole
    • Performance / Floor Work / Choreography
  • Trick Limits - No Drops and Flips allowed
  • Your Performance can be any theme
  • Show at least one Flexibility component
  • Show at least one endurance / Strength and control component 
  • Show movement  / dance off the Pole

 

Division - Intermediate 'Madness'

  • Open to 16 years +
  • For anyone who has not won any division in any Pole Dance competition, that is any Amatuer, State or National competition at time of entry, and before cut of date.
  • For anyone who has not competed in a Semi-Pro or Professional Competition at time of entry, and before cut of date.
Requirements-
  • Your Pole performance must include 3 equal parts spent on 
    • Static Pole
    • Spinning Pole
    • Performance / Floor Work / Choreography
  • Trick Limits - No Drops and Flips allowed
  • Your performance can be any theme

 

Division - Open - 'Underland'

Category- 'Open'

  • Open to all 16 years +

Requirements and Limits –

  • Your pole performance must include 3 equal parts spent on 
    • Static Pole
    • Spinning Pole
    • Performance / Floor Work / Choreography
  • Show at least one flexibility component
  • Show at least one endurance / strength and control component
  • Show movement / dance off the Pole
  • Your performance can be any theme

 

Category – Open 'Curious'

  • Open to 18 years +
  • Classic Style dance on and off the pole

 Requirements and Limits –

  • Your routine must consist of
    • Two thirds (2/3) of your routine must be classic style Pole Dance, you can include Floor work, and must include choreography utilising both poles.
    • One third (1/3) of your routine must be pole moves / tricks
  • Pole moves and tricks can be any level
  • heels are to be worn
  • Your performance can be any theme

 

Category- Open Pole Doubles - 'Tweedledee & Tweedledum'

  • Open to 16 years+

Requirements and Limits - 

  • Must be Wonderland* Themed 
  • Show at least one Flexibility Component
  • Show at least one endurance / Strength / control component
  • Show synchronised movement
  • Your routine must include 3 equal parts spent on 
    • Static Pole
    • Spinning Pole
    • Performance / Floor Work / Choreography
  • The two people who enter auditions must be the same two who compete if chosen

 

Category – Open Off The Pole - 'Down The Rabbit Hole' 18+ 

  • Open to 18 years +
  • Heels Flow / Chair Dance / Floorplay - This is a no Pole Dance routine (Chose one)

 Requirements and Limits –

  • Your routine must consist of Floor work and or dance off the pole
  • Heels are to be worn
  • Your performance can be any theme
  • No pole included 

Pole Dance Competition Rules & Regulations

Eligibility

You must be 16 years and older, except for Open division 'Curious' & 'Down The Rabbit Hole' Categories; you must be 18+ years

You must reside in Queensland
You must enter the correct division level that is correct at time of entry.

Entry Conditions and Requirements 

  • Competitors must comply always with the competition rules and regulations
  • Entry applications must only be submitted by the competitor
  • You must fill in all fields of the entry form prior to entries closing and have paid the entry fee by the date entries close.
  • The competitor performs at their own risk. The organiser, event holder, and venue of event is not liable for any injury or damage caused from participating in the competition. An indemnity form will need to be completed. If under 18 years old an adult must agree to and sign the indemnity forms.
  • The performer must not be under the influence of any drugs and alcohol at any time directly prior to or during the competition.
  • Entry fees are non-refundable
  • All photography and video throughout the event and prior during rehearsals is the property of Aerial Wonderland. The organiser has all rights to them.
  • All applicants who enter in the opens 'Curious' & 'Down The Rabbit Hole' dance style categories must be 18 years and over.
  • When you enter your division and category, it must be true at the time of entry. If by chance you place in a competition after you entered Aerial Wonderland Competition, you are still eligible to enter the category entered. 

 

Registration Requirements

  • Audition Video entries must be less than 6 months old
  • You must submit an audition video at the time of competition registration.
  • Competition audition video must be between 2.5 - 3 minutes in length.
  • The Competition audition video does not have to be the same as the performance you intend to perform on the night of the competition, but your audition must contain aspects of the category you are entering.
  • The competition audition video must not be edited. It must be one continuous video.
  • The choice of music and theme you want to perform at the competition must be submitted at time of entry. (if it’s the same as someone else’s, the earlier entrant will have first preference)
  • You may enter one or more division / category in the Divisions only you are eligible to enter, but entry fees must be paid per entry.
  • All fields must be completed on competition entry. Nothing is to be left out.
  • Successful applicants will be notified via email and announced on our social media pages.
  • The organiser reserves the right to change the rules at any time.

 

Event Performance Requirements

  • All performances must be solo performances unless entered in the Doubles category.
  • All solo performances must be 2.5 minutes in length.
  • Doubles performances must be 3.5  minutes in length.
  • There will be two poles and 1 pole will be static and one pole will be spin. Stage left will be static, stage right will be spin. (looking at the poles from the audience)
  • Poles are 38mm stainless brass poles approximately 2 metres apart.
  • Poles are 3.3 meters’ high
  • No performance is to be sexually explicit, offensive and/or derogatory references to any religion and/or race and/or sex and/or sexuality.
  • Please check judging criteria for performance specifics.

  

Props/Costumes/Foot ware

  • Performers are permitted to use small approved props, Props need to be able to be able to be put up and taken down in 30 seconds
  • No human props allowed / No glitter allowed.
  • Shoes are permitted with pre-approval.
  • No jewellery is allowed on the poles.
  • Check criteria in each category.
  • The performer may not perform nude or partially nude. All costumes must have good coverage in private areas.
  • No outfit is to be offensive and/or derogatory references to any religion and/or race.
  • Pre approved grip aids are permitted on your body.
  • Grip Aids allowed on the pole with approval is Dry Hands, Mighty Grip, No Sweat, Enviro Grip, Koala Grip, Girlie Grip and Sky High. No other grip aids will be allowed on the poles. You must supply your own grip.

Music

  • Your music must be edited and supplied as one piece and cut to the correct length in MP3 form only.
  • Music choice must be submitted with application.
  • Music must be submitted to the event organisers 3 weeks prior to Competition date.
  • No two competitors will be able to use the same music. The earlier entry in will have priority.
  • There is to be no profanity and explicit language no matter the words. (Radio edit or clean version)

Covid-19 Plan

  • Should the event need to be cancelled/rescheduled due to COVID-19, An event plan will be developed in accordance to current restrictions at the time and location of event. Sometimes this is at short notice. We may look at an online event using pre-recorded videos. You will be notified at the time of change.  
  • By entering the competition, all competitors agree to adhere to any guidelines put in place by the Australian Government and Aerial Wonderland

 

Judging Criteria

  • Concept, Originality and Creativity – Your chosen concept should clearly demonstrate use of character and or props, music and apparatus. Showing your own originality
  • Theme, Costumes - Theme, costume and props should all match the concept.
  • Stage Presence - Makes use of the stage, floor and apparatus and shows confidence on stage
  • Musicality – How your routine connects to the music and theme.
  • Flow – Movement that flows together as one.
  • Strength and Control – The tricks are technically correct and held strong and shows control
  • Tricks - Tricks are clean and easily entered, transitioned and dismounted and doesn’t look a struggle for the performer
  • Degree of Difficulty - Includes variation of skills, tricks and transitions. Difficulty level should correspond to the division entered.
  • Lines/Extension - Demonstrates clean lines, pointy toes, strong posture with control when creating aesthetically pleasing shapes. Line also means shapes, angles and arches on and off the apparatus.
  • Flexibility - Includes either splits or back at your level
  • THEMED WONDERLAND ONLY – Does the performance show a story of Wonderland*
  • DOUBLES ONLY - Synchronisation – Groups - Both performers are in time with tricks demonstrated separately as well as together on the apparatus. Dance moves and floor work of the apparatus are also well timed and synchronised.
