Divisions Categories and Criteria
Amature Division - 'Aerial Mini'
Ages between - 8-11 years old
Requirements / Limits
- Must not have not won any State or National Lyra Competitions
- No above the top bar skills, no strap moves, no inversions or tricks on strap
- No flips and drops, may not have continuous rolls, one roll is ok, no foot / ankle or neck hangs
- Must have mat
- Show at least one flexibility move
- Show movement off the apparatus
- Show at least one endurance / strength
- Show at least one intentional spin component
- Your performance can be any theme
Amature Division - 'Aerial Adventurers'
Ages between - 12-15 years old
Requirements / Limits
- Must not have not won any State or National Lyra Competitions
- No above the top bar skills, no strap moves, no inversions or tricks on strap
- No flips and drops, may not have continuous rolls, one roll is ok, no foot / ankle or neck hangs
- Must have mat
- Show at least one flexibility move
- Show movement off the apparatus
- Show at least one endurance / strength
- Show at least one intentional spin component
- Your performance can be any theme
Open Division - 'Aerial Wonders'
Ages between - 8-11 years old
Requirements / Limits
- No neck hangs
- No single foot or ankle hangs from bottom or top bar, also including from rope or strap
- Maximum 2 continuous Roll Rotations, only one continuous roll per performance
- No Lift or flip of the hoop from strap or rope
- No dynamic movement that releases entire body, must have 1- 2 points body contact at all times.
- Must have mat
- Show at least one flexibility move
- Show movement off the apparatus
- Show at least one endurance / strength
- Show at least one intentional spin component
- Your Performance can be any theme
Open Division - 'Aerial Wonders'
Ages between - 12-15 years old
Requirements / Limits
- No neck hangs
- No single foot or ankle hangs from bottom or top bar, also including from rope or strap
- 1 continuous Roll per performance
- No Lift or flip of the hoop from strap or rope
- No dynamic movement that releases entire body, must have 1- 2 points body contact at all times.
- Must have mat
- Show at least one flexibility move
- Show movement off the apparatus
- Show at least one endurance / strength
- Show at least one intentional spin component
- Your Performance can be any theme
Open Division – Doubles 'Mad Hatter'
Ages between 8-15 years old
This is a Category that you can use a Lyra or Cube aerial apparatus as a doubles performance (if you enter this doubles - 'Mad hatter' you can not enter Open division - 'Show Your Madness' category as the same doubles, it must be a completely different routine and apparatus)
Requirements / Limits
- Must have mat
- ages 8-15 years
- Show at least one flexibility move
- Show movement off the apparatus
- Show at least one component of endurance / strength / Control
- Show at least one intentional spin component
- Show synchronised movement
- your performance must be Wonderland* themed
Division – Amateur / Intermediate 'Intrigue'
- For anyone who has never won any Amature, State or National aerial competition at the time of entering.
- ages 16 years and older
Requirements / Limits
- No above the top bar skills, no strap moves, no inversions or tricks on strap,
- No flips and drops, may not have continuous rolls, one roll is ok, no foot / ankle or neck hangs
- Must have mat
- Show at least one flexibility move
- Show movement off the apparatus
- Show at least one endurance / strength
- Show at least one intentional spin component
- Your performance can be any theme
Division - Open 'Underland'
Requirements / Limits
- Must have mat
- ages 16 years and older
- Show at least one flexibility move
- Show movement off the apparatus
- Show at least one component of endurance / strength / Control
- Show at least one intentional spin component
- Your performance can be any theme
Open Category – 'Show your Madness'
This is a Category that you can use any metal aerial apparatus as a Soloist, Doubles or Trio (if you enter open doubles - 'Tweedledee & Tweedledum' you can not enter this category as the same lyra doubles, it must be a completely different routine and apparatus)
Apparatuses including Spiral, Moon, Cube, lyra, Flying Pole (request for approval if not on list)
Requirements / Limits
- Must have mat
- ages 8 years and older
- Must be Wonderland* Themed
- Show at least one flexibility move
- Show movement off the apparatus
- Show at least one component of endurance / strength / Control
- Show at least one intentional spin component
- Show synchronised movement if doubles or Trio
- Must supply your pre-approved apparatus
- Must be able to be rigged to a single point
Open Category – Doubles 'Tweedledee & Tweedledum'
This is a Category that you can use a Lyra or Cube aerial apparatus as a doubles performance (if you enter this lyra doubles division you can not enter Open 'Show Your Madness' category as the same lyra doubles, it must be a completely different routine and apparatus)

- ages 16 years and older
- Show at least one flexibility move
- Show movement off the apparatus
- Show at least one component of endurance / strength / Control
- Show at least one intentional spin component
- Show synchronised movement
- your performance can be any theme
Lyra Competition Rules & Regulations
Eligibility
16 years and older for Amateur and Open Categories.
8-15 years for Aerial Youth Divisions, unless specified.
You must reside in Queensland
You must enter the correct division level that is correct at the time of entry, unless you are turning 12 or 16 for the competition (for aerial comp. Please message us)
Entry Conditions and Requirements
- Competitors must comply always with the competition rules and regulations
- Entry applications must only be submitted by the competitor (unless under 16)
- You must fill in all fields of the entry form prior to entries closing and have paid the entry fee by the date entries close.
- The competitor performs at their own risk. The organiser, event holder, and venue of event is not liable for any injury or damage caused from participating in the competition. An indemnity form will need to be completed. If under 18 years old an adult must agree to and sign the indemnity forms.
- The performer must not be under the influence of any drugs and alcohol at any time directly prior to or during the competition.
- Entry fees are non-refundable
- All photography and video throughout the event and prior during rehearsals is the property of Aerial Wonderland. The organiser has all rights to them.
Registration Requirements
- Audition Video entries must be less than 6 months old
- You must submit an audition video at the time of competition registration.
- Competition audition video must be between 2.5 - 3 minutes in length.
- The Competition audition video does not have to be the same as the performance you intend to perform on the night of the competition, but your audition must contain aspects of the category you are entering.
- The competition audition video must not be edited. It must be one continuous video.
- The choice of music and theme you want to perform at the competition must be submitted at time of entry. (if it’s the same as someone else’s, the earlier entrant will have first preference)
- You may enter one or more division / category in the Divisions only you are eligible to enter, but entry fees must be paid per entry.
- All fields must be completed on competition entry. Nothing is to be left out.
- Successful applicants will be notified via email and announced on our social media pages.
- The organiser reserves the right to change the rules at any time.
- When you enter your division and category, it must be true at the time of entry. If by chance you place in a competition after your entry and before Aerial Wonderland Competition, you are still eligible to enter the category entered.
Event Performance Requirements
- All performances must be solo performances unless entered in the Doubles category.
- All solo performances must be between 2.5 and 3.00 minutes in length.
- Doubles performances must be 3.5 minutes in length.
- No performance is to be sexually explicit, offensive and/or derogatory references to any religion and/or race and/or sex and/or sexuality.
- Please check judging criteria for performance specifics.
Props/Costumes/Foot ware
- Performers are permitted to use small approved props, Props need to be able to be able to be put up and taken down in 30 seconds
- No human props allowed
- No jewellery is allowed.
- Check criteria in each category.
- The performer may not perform nude or partially nude. All costumes must have good coverage in private areas.
- No outfit is to be offensive and/or derogatory references to any religion and/or race.
Music
- Your music must be edited and supplied as one piece and cut to the correct length in MP3 form only.
- Music choice must be submitted with application.
- Music must be submitted to the event organisers 3 weeks prior to Competition date.
- No two competitors will be able to use the same music. The earlier entry in will have priority.
- There is to be no profanity and explicit language no matter the words. (Radio edit or clean version)
LYRA
- Aerial apparatuses heights can be set on the day to your desired height
- Aerial competitors must supply their own Lyra.
Judging Criteria
- Concept, Originality and Creativity – Your chosen concept should clearly demonstrate use of character and or props, music and apparatus. Showing your own originality
- Theme, Costumes - Theme, costume and props should all match the concept.
- Stage Presence - Makes use of the stage, floor and apparatus and shows confidence on stage
- Musicality – How your routine connects to the music and theme.
- Flow – Movement that flows together as one.
- Strength and Control – The tricks are technically correct and held strong and shows control
- Tricks - Tricks are clean and easily entered, transitioned and dismounted and doesn’t look a struggle for the performer
- Degree of Difficulty - Includes variation of skills, tricks and transitions. Difficulty level should correspond to the division entered.
- Lines/Extension - Demonstrates clean lines, pointy toes, strong posture with control when creating aesthetically pleasing shapes. Line also means shapes, angles and arches on and off the apparatus.
- Flexibility - Includes either splits or back at your level
- THEMED WONDERLAND ONLY – Does the performance show a story of Wonderland*
- DOUBLES / TRIO ONLY - Synchronisation – Groups - Both performers are in time with tricks demonstrated separately as well as together on the apparatus. Dance moves and floor work of the apparatus are also well timed and synchronised.
